1/1000s, f/3.2 and iso 3200? not messing with the aperture, you could have shot 1/250s and iso 800.

issue one, learn about how white registers on your light meter. then learn how black registers on your light meter.

issue two, metering. i dislike eval. metering. spot is much better.

issue three, exposure. learn the math behind what your aperture is doing.

issue four, focus. select your focus point and use that. fine tune manually.

years of work in here. have fun.

Gary,

From looking at your shots, that's the first thing I'd pick up, and learn to use.
Weddings are not hard, it's putting different lighting under your control is the hardest part, a flash would help tremendously with that.

To me, weddings are about moments. You captured the kiss, the boy dancing (shoes untied and all) and the little girls very well (and I bet others you haven't shared).

In the second shot, even with IS using 1/25th of a second might be asking too much. Looks like a little camera shake on the bride, and the movement of the groom's hand makes it look freakish and a little disturbing. Unless I'm purposefully trying to capture motion or get some other effect, I hardly ever go below 1/60th, and between 1/125th and 1/200th is more comfortable for me.

Use of flash (maybe with a diffuser or bounce card or nearby wall) could have helped light the little girls more evenly. I love the wrinkly details you captured in their dresses, though, as white tends to get blown out rather easily unless the flash is handled properly (I know that one from experience).

Just a detail question, because details are another part of wedding photography: did they exchange rings? The groom isn't wearing one on the traditional finger at the time of the kiss. Just curious.

Glad your family loves them.
