Dragging the shutter works best 2 ways.... very powerful overhead light or strong direct flash.

Sometimes the slower shutter can get some great motion shots ... just depends on timing and composition.
What type of lens were you using?

I used the 24-105 with IS. My thinking at the time was that it has a versatile range. When I checked the EXIF I was at about 70 to 80 mm in most of the reception frames.

PhotoDude, I'm not sure what you're getting at, but no, IS was on. The shots were not on a tripod, of course, so no need to turn off IS. And yes, I needed more speed than F4, a lot more.

I think dragging the shutter works OK in 6, but you might have gotten a better expression in whatever series you shot. For me, it just didn't work in any of the other ones. If you're limited by your equipment some way, and this time you felt the f/4 max aperture was a hindrance, often it's time to crank up the ISO to get a reasonable shutter. Noise can be handled afterward, but a blurry, double-image (first shot) cannot. The third and fourth shots look pretty good, though.
If you have one, the Canon 85 f/1.8 is a wonderful lens for this type of work. You might have had to stop it down during the getting-ready shots to get everything pertinent in focus, but otherwise I use mine wide open or nearly wide open with great results.

There's only two times during a wedding that I drag.
One is when there's not enough light And people stay still, i.e. ceremony.
The other is when I want to add motion to a shot, i.e. dance.
The rest should not be dragged.
Was flash restricted in the changing room? Even with bright lights, you need fill in those eye sockets and cross shadows from different over head lights.
