These were shot here locally with one speedlight in a softbox on a pole. A friend helped. Flash controlled off camera by the 7D wireless control. Comments are appreciated.

#2 it appears she's wearing color contacts. The blue is a bit overdone

#1, 2 and 4 look very soft to me.
I don't know if it's just me but I hate, hate, hate it when people put their heads together forming a pyramid (like in #1 and 2).

Yes, soft. Or OOF.
Would either crop more loosely or ditch the vignette. Would also bump the exposure.
For what it's worth...

Looks like you have color balance issues and they are a bit under exposed - also she needed to have her chin down more as chin is leading the photo. I always tell client their eyes and nose need to be toward the camera not their chin...

Thanks all for the great tips. They are actually very sharp but I lost it in the web conversion. Thanks for the guidance on posing. All the technique in the world did not prepare me for knowing how to pose people. These shots are of my nephew and his fiance and were done on the house. They are happy but I will do better next time.

Skintones look pretty good in No. 3 compared to the others.
I couldn't retrieve any EXIF to see what aperture you used, but in the last one she is relatively in focus compared to him, so I wonder if you were shooting fairly wide open and it threw him out of focus because they're not quite on the same focal plane. Also, she appears larger because of her being closer to the camera. She may be larger, but you don't want to convey that in a photo! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
