Full figured bride. - 02-01-2011, 05:28 PM

One question. Almost all photos of a gorgeous bride look good no matter what you do. What do folks do with a full a figured bride, really don't see those posted here to much. Not being rude or nasty, just want to know how you handle it. What light set ups, posing, etc.

You may want to ask this in the Wedding discussions area. Almost all of my brides have been skinny-minis, but posing them sideways, arm away from the body, face more straight on helps. I don't do many sitting pictures that will make them look heavier. You want to do whatever you can to make them look longer.

They don't get posted here because they don't get comments... sad, but true.

And you handle them the same way you handle any full figured woman.. shooting from angles, creative posing with the groom screening a little, sometimes you can use objects to screen a little... in the end, she looks gorgeous no matter what size - its her wedding day.

I wasn't a skinny-mini bride :) Lynnca did a great job posing.

When I shoot ladies with curves I tell them from the get go that their hips and their shoulders shouldn't be facing the same direction. A slight twist of the hips works wonders.

If you are aware of their body and really look at the ENTIRE photo you can improve--have her arch her back a bit, lengthen her neck, stand tall...sometimes the simple things are easy fixes to hiding our flaws.

I have been curious about this as well. At the "assembly-line-studio" that I work at we do couples and family portraits, and have been wondering myself how to pose the ladies in positions that are more flattering to them. I am not talking about just curvy, but rather large women (I am 6 foot and 230, so am pretty big myself, and am referring to as big or bigger than me) I am disappointed with myself when I cannot get shots of them that they truly love simply because I don't know how to pose the larger ladies. I know it's a slightly different topic but it is in the same vein and any ideas for the OP would most likely help me as well, especially with my side work.

+1

Same goes for "glamour" put up a pic of a "hottie" and you'll get tons of responses. Put up a much, much better photo of someone else and, well, you won't. Very sad - and one reason why male photographers get a bad rap.

A true photographer is good at posing - which in my opnion is the most difficult part of photography. Put up a great, detailed, in focus photo with wonderful lighting of a horriblly-posed person who looks like they're farting or something, and it's a total fail every single time.
