Wow. She's a trooper being out in that cold! Oh and great shots of course but you knew that. :)

Lol, yes she was! We had to get warmed up part way because our fingers felt like we were getting frost bite. She drove all the way from Dallas to McKinney to do this for about 30 min. lol. My car was sliding all over the road. I slipped and fell out there and my camera dropped. Luckily, it's not broken. It was a great shoot but CRAZY cold!

Wow, I can't believe a bride would get out on a day like today! Love her fur, gives some contrast to all the white. The only thing I would have liked to have seen some different poses other than her hands on her hips for most of the shots.

Thanks, guys! Yeah, she was SUCH a trooper Charrie! I couldn't quite get her dress the right color. It was a darker champagne. I do agree about the similar posing and knew that was happening while I was shooting. But, it was so damn cold, I couldn't feel the buttons on my camera, and she hasn't gotten married yet. She didn't want to get her dress dirty. So, she had to stand in each place. I didn't really know what to do differently on each shot. Usually, I will have them lying down and sitting down and such to change things up.

The vast majority are almost exactly the same pose... #5 is my favorite. Processing is nice, colors look good. I realize it's a good technique to separate the elbows from the body, but in most, they're so far separated they actually look odd.

Thanks for the critique. Oh well, we did what we could and the good thing is that the bride went nuts over them and everyone on FB loves them. So, it's all good. When you are dealing with temperatures that cold and a dress that hasn't been worn yet for the wedding, there's not a ton you can do in terms of different stuff. We were just trying to get enough shots in the short time that we had before we got frost bite.

I've already gotten an additional 6 fans on FB since I posted these, so it's working in terms of marketing. And one person ended up booking a spot in my workshop after I posted them. Yay!

Wow, that's wonderful! :)

Of course, that has nothing to do with responses given when posting images for critique in a photography forum... also most clients are pretty easy to please - hence all the craigslist "photographers" who charge like $500 and produce crap, yet people don't know any difference.

No offense. I also like your work in general, just commenting on these particular ones... my comments were minor.

I also wish they were numbered :(

Um, first of all, half of the people that posted on FB were photographers. Second, my clients are NOT easy to please. They are not your typical, CL brides and would never choose a CL photographer. And if most clients were so easy to please, then all of those photogs that complain about bridezillas wouldn't be complaining. I've never had a bridezilla. My clients are all extremely happy, so I've been lucky, and I'm apparently giving them images they love. Finally, I did not ask for critique, although I don't have a problem with people critiquing my work at all. This is a photography forum, true, but it doesn't mean that everyone wants critiques. Some people just show their work on these things. Again, I do appreciate your critique, and there is no excuse, but it was a hard shoot, and we did the best we could. If these images mean that I book another $400 workshop spot and book another bride for $3500, then I've done my job.

Anytime someone posts an image in a photography forum, it's up for critique.

Also I think you're confusing "pleasing a client" with producing great work - they're not the same thing. I didn't say "your" clients were easy to please, was just making a point. You seem to enjoy positive comments, and I gave some - but what's the point if you don't tell someone what they might improve too?

And I don't think the cold has anything to do with the elbow separation that looks odd here IMHO. And how much you charge for workshops, again, isn't relevant to the discussion here, neither is how many facebook friends you have, honestly.

I also said I like your work in general... just struggling to find anything special about this series.

No, I'm not confusing pleasing a client with producing good work. I think I do produce good work for my clients, and they are the type of clients that do know the difference.

Well, I've been a member of this forum since almost the beginning, and a lot of the time, when people want critiques, they say, C&C appreciated.

I do agree with you on the arms being too far apart and looking a bit weird. Yes, I should have noticed that, but I was so damn cold and the wind and snow were blowing, and to be honest, I didn't care. I shot these for myself, not for my client. She just did it for my sake to put up on FB. So yes, the cold did have something to do with it b/c I was too cold to really care about the posing being perfect. I did these to book more brides and get brides' attention, so it worked for what I wanted.

Lol, Dan, not trying to start something, just explaining my side of things. Again, I do appreciate critiques even though I don't specifically ask for them. Also, as a photog friend told me, she said to look at high fashion and they do poses with their arms spread that far a lot. I did tell this bride we were going for the high fashion type of posing, so I guess that's why she did her arms like that. I do agree some look weird, but I don't agree that there is NOTHING special about any of the images. I will be getting at least one blown up.
