E session with Classic Car - 03-05-2011, 11:02 AM

Last weekend I shot this esession. We toke the traditional "posed" photos for mom but wanted to do something different. The groom wanted to include dad's classic 1966 Chevy Nova. He failed to tell me that dad's #1 rule was NO TOUCHING the outside of the car! eek! 1/2 the shots I planned were out! I think it turned out well. Here are a few of my favs:

1.

2.

3.

4.

5.

6.

I like! Numbers 2 is my favorite. I think the desaturated vintage look on number two adds to the classic feel. I like number three as well, but there is something about the crop at the top part that is bugging me. I'm not sure if it's the cut through her head or his neck? Maybe crop out both heads or leave them in all together? Overall, I think they will be very pleased with this shoot. Good Job!

They are not for everybody, but I kind of like them. Gutsy move on #3.

#4, He looks like her Dad, a little creepy. #4 also seem a little OOF. Looks like the auto focus locked onto the wipers. Perhaps that was your intent.

#3 was purely me pushing it. I really wanted to show HOW tall he is vs how short she is. I know I could have cropped both of their heads off but, once again, I was showcasing the car. We had plenty of portraits that "followed the rules" that I wanted a few that pushed it.

My husband said the same thing about #4! The groom is definitely older looking than the bride, not to mention so much taller.

I was going for a OOF on that as well. By focusing on the blades the couple was actually more in focus then when I tried to focus on the glass. I think it was due to the angle of the light when I was in front of the car.

I was terrified I would touch that car or that my shootsac would bump into it. The FOG was standing there watching my every move.

Auto focus but put my focal point on the blade for this shot.

I like your ideas and concept. I like #2 and #5 as is. The rest need a little work like the others have mentioned.

oh Susan, I would have squealed shooting that car! my dad used to race with a Nova. would love to see a pic with them and the whole car. my cc would be for #4 loving this image but would be better to have them in focus as opposed to the hood of car. can't wait to see more on your blog!

I'm a car guy. I eat this stuff up. I like 'em.

Did they not want to do one with them doing a burnout? lol

Thanks! I would have loved to have some fun with that car. When dad popped the hood I almost passed out--completely chromed the motor. It was so pretty. But I've never been so nervous about messing up that car. I honestly had my insurance papers to show him that I was covered. Thankfully he didn't ask to see it! :)

The shot I love to see is the couple stretched out on a blanket with the car filling the background.
