My Mother's Wedding Dress - 03-11-2011, 11:08 PM

Critique: CC:

My mom pulled out her dress tonight after dinner and asked me to take some pictures. I used their rings in some. Keep in mind I didn't have all my lenses or flashes, and it was 10pm so conditions were not the best.

I'm guessing you are glad she didn't do a Trash the Dress session. Very nice images.
In fact that gives me a good idea of something to present to my wedding clients who have been married 10-15, 20-25 years ago. Thanks!

She wanted me to do a bridal session with my sister wearing it, although my sister fits in it, the dress is very dated. She was not going to let me take pictures of her in it!

Some girls appreciate "dated." Its not dated, its classic.

Most look underexposed to me. If your camera was in an auto mode (Auto, P, A, S) the meter probably saw a bunch of white in the frame and dialed down the exposure. Check white balance too.

I was in manual, I get comments on my exposure every time I post. I need to calibrate my monitor to fix that.

great idea... i really like that approach. very cool.

The only thing that stands out to in regards to how I may have done things differently would be to process them all the same way and not have a large variance in colors shifts in the dress. That way, I could take say 6 or 8 different photos of the dress, print them in a 4x4" size and make a large print collage of them and give it as a gift to them.

The color shift makes that cumulative end product not as appealing... just my CC. thanks.

I agree, I'd reedit them to whichever processing is the best. Thanks!

Great details but it doesn't show the overall dress, which might make a nice memory down the road.

You know with digital and all, your sister could wear the dress easily and you can go back and edited it make it look like it was done back it the day, add some noise, filters, bleach the skin alitlte and bingo, VINTAGE look... Im sure your mother would LOVE IT and im sure it will bring back ALOT of good memories and make her feel good.

I too would love to see the overall dress... vintage looks are very popular, depending on the person.
