Bridals at Aloft Downtown and Flippen - 04-04-2011, 08:21 PM

Critique: CC:

It drives me nuts to wait until after the wedding to post bridals on my site, so TPF will have to do for now! :) These were from a Bridal last Friday with one of my June brides. We started at Aloft in Downtown, then went over to Flippen for the rest. CC is welcome - though I am my biggest critic, and I could go on for days about things I needed to change in hindsight, I will say that I'm aware that a lot of these are very similar posing, but I just picked a few of my faves, and these are not the whole by any means. Also, these were a quick preview for the bride, and aren't full edits, so if anything jumps out that I missed let me know!

Beautiful location, and a lovely lady. Good job on the shots.
I'd love to see more variety in poses though. Most of the poses here are the same with almost full frontal shot which exaggerates her features slightly.

The later more traditional images work best. The museum shots raise questions such as "Why does this picture have a bride in it?". Nevertheless, they may have helped relax the bride for the latter shots. Placement of the bride and compositions in the earlier shots are poor.

Your exposure and color look pretty good. I agree about the posing.. Try reading some fashion magazines and getting inspiration for poses. Also, it would be nice to have a shallower DOF in some of these. An endless DOF makes them take on a little bit of a snapshot quality.

The exposure of the bride in 3 & 4 seem unbalanced. Many of the photos lack subject sharpness. #9 is my favorite in terms of overall photographic balance.

Great colors and the shots are good, but if you had a shallower DOF they would of been amazing!!

I love the colors! Do these places charge a shooting fee?

interestin location..

17 is about only one that passes, with some photoshop cleaning of background (car has nothing to do there)

as of CC.. where do you want to start?

- lack of light control - flat pictures, odd shadows indoors racoon eyes outdoors
- posing (including same bad pose over and over again across many pictures and backgrounds)
- composition
- unflattering angles
- not paying attention to elements and backrounds , other than subject

bridals sppse to be about real portraiture, not about some photojournalistic hyped fluff. I'd suggest getting real book or DVDs and learn classic portrait techniques. Not talking about poses. Just portraits.
