Arrow Reception at the Omni - 07-30-2011, 12:16 PM

Critique: CC:

This is the "Sneak Peek" I am providing and would love some feedback. I had the pleasure of photographing this bride's reception at the Omni Hotel at 7 Riverway in Houston. They had a destination ceremony in Hawaii. This space was gorgeous for anyone who is looking for a great suggestion for a reception...loved the decor, the view and plenty of free or low cost parking.

Texkam...3, I know :( I want to save it, I really like the photo, but I'm not sure what I can do other than use the unsharp mask on her face and crop him out? Maybe that might improve it? I'd hate to trash it.

Unsharp mask won't make the picture in focus. You delete, say that it sucks to miss a great moment and move on. My first cull deletes all pics that are oof. The client will pic your OOF one and want to blow it up, then be pissed at the quality. Always happens. So delete anything not sharp enough to blow up to a wall portrait and then go through what you got. I've had the conversation "it would look alright as a 4x6 or on facebook, but it would be terrible at 20x30" and it isn't a fun one. Save yourself the trouble.

LOL, I had this same response written, but decided to be nice and delete. I've given some of these types of images to my daughter's friends for FB purposes knowing that the kids are more interested in the story the picture was telling. Someone wanting to like an image on FB is indeed quite different than someone wanting a 20x30 to hang on a wall. Few people want a 20x30 of a group of teens doing the duck lips peace sign pose. : )

Did you rent equipment for a dimly lit reception or did you use your rebel (listed on your camera)?

plus one what Tom said ... stinks to miss moments, but it stinks worse to have an upset client
