Critique: NC:

Hi All,

I'm not even sure if this is fixable because I've tried several times to fix this photo and it comes out looking worse than the original. This was a test shot and is SOOC but OF COURSE the bride loves this shot =/ I'm hoping maybe there is a Photoshop genius on here who can fix the big nasty sun spot on her face?

I can fix it if I have the original. This was done off of this small copy.

Thanks Leslie!!! I'll send her this version and see what she thinks! Did you use paint over another layer? I could not get it right...I kept painting and painting and I just couldn't get it...

I used the dodge exposure tool a bit in LR, although it was hard b/c of the small size, I couldn't blow it up big. So, I took it in CS5 and used the brush tool on it. Then, I used that new tool in CS 5 to fix that back wall.

I had some stray sun-lit spots on some portraits this weekend and did something new to fix them, probably not as quick as Leslie or as expert but they turned out pretty good.

I have CS3 and first used the eye dropper tool to sample the skin closest to the sun spot to get the right color. Then I used the magic wand tool to select the sun spot. I then used the paint bucket with the opacity turned down to like 20% and clicked inside the sun spot a few times till it was close to the skin color and then clicked deselect. It worked quite nicely if I don't say so myself. :)

Fairly easy to fix in Photoshop, but probably will not look as natural due to the different lighting ratio. There's a couple of different ways, you can either make copied layers & adjust the lighting & merge them, or take a sample of her skin tone & brush over where you need to darken/lighten.

One thing to consider though, don't deliver something like this in the future, problem solved before it starts.

Thanks for the tips everybody. Leslie I showed her and she said it wasn't the same...for some odd reason I think she actually likes the sun spot which totally blows my mind. And I agree with Viet Leslie is one of the most helpful and sweetest people on here.

Also I don't generally show photos with mistakes or test shots but this bride wanted to go through the photos right after we finished =/

Wow, thanks, guys! I try to help whenever I can. Glad she liked your original though! You never know what a client is going to like best, but at least you gave her a choice. Seems as though you shot it exactly the way she wanted it, which is a good thing.

Maybe you could do the opposite and make the sun spot bigger so it looks like she's got a spotlight on her. Just a thought. :)

Ah, so next time you have this shot to take use a flash with a grid and a gel (to match sun light) and spot light the face. Thats what she likes, that spot light look.

Others might like it as well... ;-)
