What size do you crop to? - 03-17-2006, 12:20 PM

In your post processing workflow what size do you crop to. Do you crop all to 4x6 for proofs and then go back to the originals for enlargements? Or do you crop all to the original sizes and make 4x6 (or whatever size proofs) from that?

For example when you shoot a wedding do you crop all images to the original size or do you crop all to some other intermediate size and then work from that? Or do you do something totally different from either of these approaches?

I'm sure there are many variations from what I've mentioned but I've still not figured out the best process for myself. No matter what I do I don't seem to be comfortable with the process and it seems that I'm doing double work.

Hopefully this question makes sense to someone.

As always any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks.

I always leave my images in the 4x6 format even if I crop them in some.

Well maybe not always but very close too it, with the only exception being the formals. I crop them all to 8x10 format since I shoot them with room to crop and they look better in the tighter 8x10 format.

Agree with Mike. Leave everything in the 2:3 ratio it was shot in...for proofs I'll batch action them down to 75 dpi since they are printed 12 per 10" x 13" page (at a 2:3 ratio per print) to make it a faster upload process...but then again Miller's is pretty fast no matter what.
I also crop the formals for the proofs.
