The Gaylord Resort in Grapevine immediately comes to mind, but you may have to pay a modest fee. I'm not sure. It's a really nice place, though, with lots of opportunity.

Hotels that have atriums usually have really pretty window light spilling all over the place...very romantic feeling. Of course Im blanking on the names right now.

My fav hotel in that area is the Rennaissance on Stemmons Frwy. The outside is freaky pink, but the inside is really great romantic lighting, marble floors, etc.

If you call $ 250.00 a modest fee But that does include a room to change in and a personal assistant with keys to special areas.

I just shot some family portraits at the Gaylord Texan and I did not have to pay a fee at all.

Sarah would you mind posting a couple so that I can get a feel for what the inside has to offer? I've never been, but I am looking for someplace to go during these cooler months.

This might sound like I'm trying to be smart, but I'm not:

In the studio.

Why don't we see studio engagements anymore?

I dont think you're being "smart" so dont sweat it, but I dont have a studio or access to one. I dont really have the "studio" lighting know-how either. I would love to be able to do simple in studio engagements.

You lucked out. If they think you look like a professional they will ask you to prove otherwise or leave. If you don't use a tripod or lights, sometimes you can get by. But suppose you get caught. That would be embarrassing to explain to your client.

I have not done any post processing yet, but I will try to post some when I get off work tonight.

A for paying a fee at the Gaylord, I called ahead of time and I was assured that I would not be charged a fee as long as I did not use studio lights or a tripod.

So how on earth do you "prove otherwise"? I can't prove I'm not a potman*, but I'm not.

They can get pretty fussy about that stuff, can't they?

*edit: "potman"? I meant postman. i could prove I'm not a pot man by peein in a cup.

Ah, but Kimberly, you DO have access to a Studio. Go to this link: http://www.texasphotoforum.com/forum...ad.php?t=28378. Our very own Brad has a studio that he rents for $35/hr (2 hr. min). Unless you are looking for a FREE indoor location, this seems like it would be right up your alley. Just bury the cost of the rental in your fees.

I got stopped at the Botanic Garden in Ft. Worth a few years back. Hasselblad w/180 and bellows lens shade on a tripod, beautiful girl in a wedding gown, and they thought I looked like a professional photographer. I showed them my drivers license, the bride showed them her, last names were the same, addresses were the same so no fee charged. So because I was photographing family that prooved I wasn't professional.

I talked to Michelle at Gaylord and she told me the first few weeks they were open they had no problems, but after that they would have anywhere from four to ten photographers with brides in wedding dresses schlepping cameras and lights and other gear all over the place, blocking walkways, etc. So they instituted the fee in self defense.

Oh I don't think it's a bad policy-I understand their position. I was just wondering how to prove a negative. other than my wife and son, I'm the only one in my family with my last name. It might be hard for some.

What if I was a neighbor with a really nice camera setup?
