help! i'm processing some images for a guy..and the white balance is way off...

my dilemna is when i balance for the brides dress - the skin tones turn yellow...

when i balance for what i like the skin to look like - the dress takes on a blue cast...

which is preferable?

Can you balance for skin in a layer and then use the eraser to recapture the dress?

I prefer the first photo. :)

OK you should have some sort of reading (#'s) for each setting-so why not pic the spot that is the average between the two adjustments and see what that looks like?

As to above I prefer #1

I like the first one for sure. If you're that worried about the blue tint to the dress (which really isn't that bad) go into Hue/Saturation and desaturate the blues and cyans just a bit.

I think you'll be OK, they have a thin candy shell. I'm surprised you didn't know that.

First one is much, much better... But, depending on how many you have, the idea of using a layer to correct the bride is a good one.

Out of curiousity, is the first one also an accurate wb for the white in the minister's shawl?

I would use Katya's suggestion and erase back in the details. Or go to hue/saturation, select blue and desaturate until the blue is gone form the dress.

It's simple... just make two layers and WB for the skin and the dress separately. I do it all the time to correct for mixed lighting...

Layer masks are your friend.

I like the first one too. What program are you using for white balance?

i am using bibble for raw conversion -

thanks for the idea...

Hey Janet,
I would do what Silvernic said, use the first image, but reduce the blue layer to taste. That should be all you need to do. :)

Merry Christmas :)
