Do you make the trip? - 05-16-2007, 04:09 PM

OK, so I have a bride who has seen my web site and wants to meet with me and look at my portfoliio (which is basically the same thing that is on my gallery online)...the problem? she's in Austin. so you would make the 90 minute drive without a guarantee of getting the job?

if you would, would you put any stipulations on the meeting and if not what would you tell her?

How about finding a midpoint where both of you drive about 45 min too meet up with each other? do you think the bride is willing to do so?

I'm in the Austin area. I've met with people from Houston in Brenham before.

I'm sure others may disagree, but if you are out of town, I won't travel for a meeting. The website would have to do. If they insist on seeing samples, perhaps a mailing of albums with some type of return deposit setup would work better.

Same goes for me. Because even if I do book, I am already losing money on the gig from the traveling.

I would not ship out an album though.

Meeting halfway is good, but otherwise I think the trip will cost too much time and money for no guaranteed payoff. The other offer I would extend is to mail a few sample prints (5x7 and 8x10) with a note asking them to be returned in the postage paid envelope you included. That shouldn't cost too much and you could reuse the prints in anoher similar situation.
