engagement blurb book... - 05-25-2007, 09:59 PM

i just wanted to share, i did some engagement photos for my best friend's daughter (who happens to be marrying chad hedrick - a local celebrity person here in spring) and i put together a blurb book for them and will mail it off on tuesday.

this is a link to the pages - these are however not the FINAL pages, but close enough that you get the idea. these were first or second draft, i don't remember which. i've added, subtracted, changed stuff, but it's basically the book they are getting. yes there are pages where the pictures are pretty much the same, but it's kind of supposed to be a proof book/engagement thing - they have an idea of what exactly is on the cd.

can i just say..the blurb 7x7 is the cutest thing!

i would appreciate any comments - i had a ton of fun doing these..and i literally sweated bullets over the poems.

I loved the pics! To be honest I did not read all of the poems (or even most) but what a great composite of pics. The only nit-pick which was probably resolved in a later version is page 30 where they were facing forward and the top half of their head was gone. So you like the Blurb books? I've heard lots of negatives.

thanks guys -

loana - these were taken at mercer arboretum, just on the north side of the beltway 8 and 45 area

debbi - yeah - it was corrected in a later version - it's been a month since i put those up on zenfolio. i also added 4-5 pages of pictures that her mom took at the actual engagement (she was in on the surprise) to the end of the book.

as far as blurb books go? my cover on this book is awesome - i know lots of folks had trouble last xmas, but the new 7x7 and 13x11 books use 4 color printing? which is different than what they offered then. i don't think the colors are as vibrant as i see on my monitor...as well as my laptop - but hey, could just be me.

and yes, going thru each of those poems was hard - i don't expect anyone to actually read them - you should have tried picking them OUT!~ haha

i'm considering doing these as proof books. i had 126 pages altogether for $39 dollars.. hard to beat. it's the right size to stick a dvd in back as well. Also on the 2 new sizes, you can upload a custom logo to use instead of the blurb one. turned out well.

hey michael - i'll have to tell her you saw them -

and thanks to all - lynsey and chad are soo much fun. In fact, I had done senior portraits for her sister, who is best friends with my daughter, which is what prompted this shoot. and they were a blast as well, and i'm working on her book now as we speak. i love these small books for things like this!

Nice work. That's a LOT of photos in that book!

Now, about Blurb. I don't have any experience with them, but I've read that quality can be inconsistent and they do put a Blurb logo on the book.

You can now replace their logo with your own for like $10 more.

Nice pics, but I think I would do more full page photos and just cut back on the multi photo pages where they all look the same.

i have read that about the quality inconsistencies as well - and as I put more of these small books together, I'll let you know how that works for me.

Quote:
according to blurb...How do I remove the Blurb logo from my book?
We know you love Blurb. We also know that sometimes you may not want our logo on your book. All standard Blurb books are printed with the Blurb logo on the copyright page and final page, but our premium upgrade lets you add your own branding or go “logo-free.”

Here’s how you go logo free:

Click on the Blurb logo where it appears in your book.
Select “Use Custom Logo/No Logo” from the pop-up window.
Leave the area blank (do not add any image) and your book will be printed without a Blurb logo.
the 2 new sizes are considered premiums and allow you to do your own custom logo. (i actually had to create one, since i didn't have one already).

I think my primary use for these books will be as proof books - and i did this one just to check out their new size. as a proof book - i think the advantages are many - something i was suprised about - is when several photos are on one page - you really aren't squinting to see them in the printed book. i was pretty concerned about that - you know, things look quite different on a 22 inch monitor than printed in a small book - no matter what viewing zoom you use - it's just different until you have it in your hands.

As proof books, one of the major pluses..will the be inability to lay it on a scanner easily. i'm sure it can still be done, but they'll have to work harder at it.

I can see myself making these for all sorts of occassions, on a personal level. my flower pictures, my dogs... i have one of the larger size books in progress that are old family pictures that i have worked on restoring, etc that i'm making for family members to have (since i'm the keeper of ALL family photos - both sides of the family too).
