After the wedding process - 07-14-2008, 10:42 AM

After being the shooter at my first wedding I have a few questions. It was a relative's wedding so was done for free.

What is your process for bride and groom proofing their photos?
Do you use online proofing?
Do you use contact sheets?
Do you use individual photos?
If so what size and how many do you print?
Before the B&G see the photos do you white balance and color correct?
Do you crop any photos before B&G order prints?

Thanks for any advise.

I use online proofing, and I do a quick weed-out of the photos that didn't work or duplicates. Then I do very quick, light editing (basically RAW conversion involving basic sharpening and color fixes and cropping if necessary). I want my clients to see the best, not works in progress. Of course, you don't want to spend too much time on the front end with editing photos that won't sell, so it's a balance. Clients order prints from my online galleries in whatever sizes they want.

WOW..Just looked at your web site...Very good photos!!!
When cropping do you use the aspect to image ratio? Or do you crop with no restriction?

Well, thanks!

I either use an aspect ratio or "eyeball" it, leaving extra crop room for 8x10s and the like. Haven't had a problem yet, but part of me like to live dangerously!

What is your process for bride and groom proofing their photos?
we do proofing parties. they come into the studio and see the images projected while having a little mini party with their friends and family.

Do you use online proofing?
i hate online proofing. you cant control the sale. we use it with limits on time, mainly so family that is far away can purchase without a hassle.

Do you use contact sheets?
No.

Do you use individual photos?

no. it kills sales. we may offer a paper proof set at a discount at the proofing party if total sales exceed a set amount.

If so what size and how many do you print?
see above. if so, all proofs at additional cost

Before the B&G see the photos do you white balance and color correct?
we do full editing on all images before they see them. the impact is different. but it cost more and needs to be figured into your costs.

Do you crop any photos before B&G order prints?

i make them look good, which sometimes means a crop.

hope that helps a little. we do primarily upscale weddings and my specialty is couture bridals. feel free to ask if you have more ?s.

If it's for the family, why don't you just give them the photos on CD, unless you want to control your final product and print an album out or pictures.

HotHolly,

Thank you for your input. I will attempt a projection viewing. On a average how many photos are shown during one of your viewings? Holly? Do you do a wedding 101 class?

Killeenguy,

I will give the B&G a CD, but even though I did the wedding for free I believe they deserve the best product possible.

thanks

What is your process for bride and groom proofing their photos?
The last few weddings we have had, wanted to create there own albums. So we provided the Bride and Groom with all of the edited shots taken on the day, onto a disc.

Do you use online proofing?
You have the choice of an online password protected gallery. This by no means, is an on line proof, it is an easy quick way to show family and friends, and order prints.

Do you use contact sheets?
Yes. This is paperwork filled out before the wedding.

Do you use individual photos?
No.

If so what size and how many do you print?
If they would like prints, the can order a choice of there own sizes through the convenient online gallery.

Before the B&G see the photos do you white balance and color correct?
ALL pictures are edited for final product.

Do you crop any photos before B&G order prints?
See above.

The proofing is made into a party. They are there for a couple of hours laughing and having fun. They usually watch a slide show of their wedding proofs with music playing several times. How many proofs depends on the length of the wedding. We tend to present less than average b/c of our PP.

And yep, we are planning a big wedding workshop event thingie this fall. It'll be at the Paramount Theatre in Abilene. I'll post that when the course content is nailed down. It'll be an all day thing. You'll be up to your eyeballs in wedding info!
