Guest Book - 07-23-2008, 08:18 AM

I had a client ask me to make her guest book for her daughter's wedding.

I have never really made a book before of any kind, so this is a first exercise for me. I've always been afraid of layouts and never knew what options were available for book printing.

Anyhow, the client asked me to use a service called Picaboo (www.picaboo.com) - which is fairly easy to use. The book is very automated as all layouts are provided, but it still took me a very long time to do.

Anyhow, here is the book - the first two pages are disclaimer. Please let me know your thoughts

The first book always takes three times longer than the second one. Soon you will be whipping them out in minutes, not hours.

Looks like a good idea to me too. Your time was well spent. I'm sure the guests will notice this one!

Looks good, however picaboo print quality for me does not have that "professional" feel. I've done a couple of books with them and really disappointed at the print quality. What you see might not be what you'll get colors & sharpness-wise.

Hmm thanks viet - I am going to order a copy for myself so I can have it on file.

Picaboo also has Flushmount options, which I may look into because of their software and templates.

I have had to change the book around a little due to client request.

if you can save the design as a pdf, you should look into getting it printed at whcc or miller's. they both offer lay flat pressbooks and flushmounts. quality on the layflat pressbooks at whcc is impressively high and it's affordable. best part about it is it takes them like 3 days to print & ship.

well i just got this guest book in ... and i guess i can say i am more than a little disappointed

i actually think the prints are ok ... the photos are printed on what appears to be a magazine style paper ... and while they are not perfect (color or sharpness), i still found the printed photos to be passable

however the build quality of the album is really flimsy. i feel as if i can break the album in two pieces without much effort ... it almost feels like a piece of plastic in my hands ...

and i also feel that the binding is not so great ... over time the pages will get worn out and you may see the pages start to tear slightly out of the binding

anyhow, like i said i am really disappointed in the album build quality ... i probably will not even consider buying their flushmounts ... and may only have it on display to limited brides ..

www.blurb.com is also a good cost effective choice. be careful and read up on their faq's and be sure to softproof your photos with their printer profile.

and that's where the quality of a WHCC, Millers, SharedInk, or Asuka come into play!
