First Album EVER (c/c please) - 12-04-2008, 09:32 PM

So I have always pushed for my clients to get the digital negatives and do their own albums or just buy prints, because I just hated the thought of sitting down for hours and trying to design an wedding album. At least I thought it would take hours, even days and now since I am now doing the bridal show I had no choice but to make not one but several.

Luckily I found out about Lumapix (Fotofusion) and decided to give it a shot. Its was really simple and didn't take as long as I thought it would.

Anyway, I would love some constructive criticism since I am planning to print this to show to future clients and at a bridal show. I even want to show it to my client who is in the album.

Ok, so let me know your thoughts...

The first page will have their names and wedding date when I am finished with the album.

page 1

page 2 and 3

page 4 and 5

page 6 and 7

page 8 and 9

page 10 and 11

page 12 and 13

page 14 and 15

page 16 and17

page 18 and 19

page 20 and 21

page 22 and 23

It may be just the way I'm looking at them, but the semi-opaque photos don't work for me. Might just be that there's a lot of detail lost as they are posted here; printed images might be just perfect.

And what you might consider is either having an extra copy printed to give to the featured couple. Or at least offer it to them at a discount.

Nice works. I do have a couple comments. I agree with Todd. The opaque images are normally used as background not the main image of the page. I did not like the image of the bride raising her arms on page 2 & 3. Other than that I thought it looks pretty nice.

I think the pictures and layouts are beautiful. I have no experience designing an album but I really like your work.

Its a good 1st album. As you do more you'll notice you'll start to favor a certain look and your albums will grow more cohesive and even tighter than this one. I think some of the latter pages are too busy, but I like a simple layout - less is more kinda thing.

Very nice! I'm curious about creating albums this way versus just loading photos into an online album. How do you get them printed & bound? Is it way more expensive this way than creating an album at Mpix (or similary vendor)?

I like it a lot. I think you should be a little more sparing with the opaque full page shots. I like the effect just not so frequent.

Overall great job!

The images look nice, but my only concern would be that they are all of the same wedding. Let me state for the record that I'm not, nor do I have a desire to be, a wedding photographer. However, I would think that an album should represent a span of your work. This one really doesn't. It looks like you did an awesome job - on 1 wedding.

I may be totally wrong on this one; I'll let the wedding photogs decide that.

Also, this is just me, but I'm not a big fan of the arm pit shot on page 2.
