I have a photo paper question. I am starting to prepare for the portfolio contest and I am about to send my photos to Shutterfly to get printed and I do now know what photo paper finish I want (glossy, matte, etc.). I know they will be framed behind glass but I'm still not sure what the best option is for prints. Can someone help?

Ava,

Good question. Don't know that there is a right or wrong --- but if anyone has knowledge of it, please speak up. Will help all of us know.

PERSONALLY, I prefer Gloss. I FEEL the detail and sharpness is just better .... but that is personal preference. Certainly not based on 'science' .

I will watch the thread to see what other responses come this way.

Susan

And all through college I used matte paper with my black and white images because I tend to favor higher contrast photos and I thought the matte really worked well with making the blacks and whites pop. In my portfolio though, all my images are color so I don't know what to do.....I'm so confused

I think paper choice is another subjective part of photography - Like you said you prefer matte for your B&W - I know that I choose glossy for my golf photographs but prefer matte for my travel subjects but that's because of how "I" like the photo to look.
