Blurry viewfinder...please help! - 11-13-2008, 09:21 AM

I hope someone out there can help me. I went to do a portrait shoot yesterday and when I looked through my veiwfinder, all the writing on the bottom (the aperature and shutter speed) was so blurry I couldn't read it. So was view of the picture I was about to take. I had to do the whole photoshoot like that and it was aweful! I got some good shots but I can't do that again. Has anyone had this problem before? I am shooting with a Canon Rebel Xti.

Thank you for any help you can give me.

does the eyepeice have the diopter adjustment (a small black, notched wheel, only the edge of which shows). It is on the top right edge of the viewfinder iirc. It is used to avoid using glasses to see thru the finder clearly. Sometimes it can get accidentally turned so that it works like having on the wrong glasses.

Okay, I went online to a Canon troubleshooting forum and someone said that it sounded like it needed a diopter adjustment. They said that it is a small wheel located on the right side of the eyepiece with a + and -. They said to adjust that until the image is clear. I hope this works. I will try it when I get home. Has anyone else used there diopter adjustment and did it work?

Thanks Kenw! I'm at work and don't have my camera with me so when I get home I will check it out. I can't recall if my camera has that wheel or not but I may not have noticed it. I'm hoping it does!

Thanks,
Ava

I wear reading glasses, the adjustment lets me see clearly without the glasses. If you don't wear glasses, it might not be something you think about.

good luck and let us know if that works.

the recommended adjust procedure it to activate all the focus points and adjust the diopter until they are the sharpest.
